Event Date: 10/12/2010
Event Time: 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The Implications of Colorado's Amendment 63

Speakers

The Colorado Managed Care Collaborative (CMCC) Board of Directors is finalizing the panel speakers for this upcoming event. Ralph Pollock will serve as Moderator. He is a member of the 208 Health Care Reform Commission, CEO of AsiaPacific Access, and serves on the board of the Denver Health Medical Plan and the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry where he chairs its Health Council.

The Program

The Amendment is referred to as "Health Care Choice" by its proponents and was put on the ballot through a petition drive with over 135,000 signatures. In essence, it asks Colorado voters to blunt the impact of federal health care reform with a state constitutional amendment that would attempt to undo or preempt the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed by Congress this year. Opponents argue that it's definitely not a "Health Care Choice" initiative and, among other things, the language is so broad it may be interpreted to:

· Prohibit the state from regulating the scope of practice of medicine,

· Prohibit the state from ever requiring those in Medicaid and/or CHP+ programs to be enrolled in managed care or Accountable Care Collaboratives

· Eliminate the #1 recommendation by Colorado's 208 Commission that would reduce the cost of premiums by expanding rate pools for people who currently can't afford health insurance

There will be time for questions from the audience so come prepared.
