Doug Stevens Invited to Present at the Experiential Learning Leadership Initiative in Lake Tahoe, California

Doug Stevens, special counsel in the litigation practice, will be speaking at the Experiential Learning Leadership Initiative in Lake Tahoe, CA, on April 16.

Stevens’ participation is part of the Initiative’s Experiential Learning Leadership Intensive (“E.L. Boot Camp”), sponsored by the Shine Your Light organization and the Gap Year Association. Stevens will be co-presenting with Ethan Knight, executive director of the Gap Year Association.

In his presentation, Stevens will address important legal and risk management issues, through his use of a case study from a lawsuit he defended several years ago. He will also discuss various types of insurance coverage useful to the outdoor recreation and experiential education communities.

Stevens has significant experience advising outdoor recreation providers and experiential educators on their legal and risk management needs and has been representing companies in the sector for nearly 15 years.

In his practice, Stevens frequently prepares documents for his clients including acknowledgment of risks and liability releases, vendor and service agreements, staff manuals, and customer registration materials. He also assists recreation providers with their risk management and litigation needs, including defending personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits, contract disputes, accident response, insurance claims, and appropriate written and verbal communications. He regularly lectures to industry professionals and experiential educators about various risk management issues, including at the most recent Wilderness Risk Management Conference in Maine.
